HPGX® Technology

Thermonexus is proud to be the exclusive Rygan Solution Provider for HPGX® technology in the Northeast.  HPGX® stands for High Performance Ground Exchanger.

The HPGX® ground heat exchanger system is an advanced technology that provides a quantum leap in thermal performance over u-tube closed loop designs. It incorporates high-tech composite pipe materials and next generation thermally conductive grout to achieve the maximum amount of thermal energy exchange with the ground. This translates into greater heat pump efficiency, less energy consumption and lower operating costs for you.

Key advantages of HPGX®

  • Advanced composite casing with large surface area for heat transfer
  • Thermally conductive grout
  • Materials and grout are NSF approved
  • Insulated flow channels to prevent thermal "short circuiting".
  • Integral corrugation increases turbulence, disrupting the fluid boundary layer.
  • Product backed by a multi- billion dollar company with a proven track record.

A lower thermal resistance enables a given heat load to be moved more efficiently with a lower thermal gradient.

Applications

HPGX Technology

Conventional closed loop

Not all GHEX materials are alike in terms of thermal performance.

A conventional U-tube is constructed of HDPE (plastic) which is encased in a clay-sand grout.  Both are poor conductors of heat and, therefore, provide a poor means of exchanging heat between the water and the earth.

HPGX® is a technology that  incorporates advanced materials and a flow design geared to maximizing heat transfer.   HPGX® results in lower borehole resistance, more heat transfer per foot, and less boreholes needed to transfer an equivalent amount of thermal energy.

Why is this important?

Typical U-tube ground heat exchanger (GHEX) fields require significant square footage on a property.  This works in rural areas where space is not an issue, but prohibits the deployment of GeoEnergy systems in metropolitan areas where real estate is at a premium, but where climate control demands are the highest.

RescueFit™ for failed standing columns

The reliability and convenience of closed loop with capacity of a standing column.

Standing column wells are attractive for many reasons.  High thermal capacity,  a small foot print required, deployable in tight urban areas.    They succeed by drilling deep and allowing water to flow in contact with the rock.  Unfortunately,  Mother Nature doesn't always cooperate and what are considered key advantages to standing column designs, can quickly become their Archille's heel.   Their open design is susceptible to poor water quality, unstable rock, and salt water intrusion in the coastal areas.

What do you do if your Standing Column wells "go south"?  It's a particularly painful question after you have made the commitment and a very big investment in geothermal.

Thermonexus has a solution to bring back your piece of mind.   We call it  RescueFit™, because we're able to rescue your investment as we retrofit your well with HPGX® DeepSET™ technology.

Field tests have demonstrated that HPGX® technology in an open water column has thermal performance similar to a standing column without bleed.  But there is one very big advantage!  The HPGX system is a closed loop.  Your ground source heat pump equipment is no longer exposed.  It now sees only conditioned water circulating within the loop.  No more expensive plate heat exchangers, in-well submersible pumps, costly O&M issues, or worries about aquifer cross-contamination!   HPGX® DeepSET™ also eliminates the high electricty cost pumping water from depth, saving you on operating costs.

Call today to see if your problem standing column wells are good candidates for RescueFit™.

To make the most of your green investment, make sure your ground exchanger is high performance, spec HPGX® and don’t settle for the rest.
